JG Builders Braidleys Ltd – Winner NHBC Pride in the Job
For this project building within the fields of a working farm provided a few challenges, first and foremost ensuring the saftey of the deer – the neighbours of the plot! the house is built on a half-acre site, and the property itself provides 245 square metres of flexible living space. One of the most unique features is the fact that the house is built into the side of a hill giving the appearance of a bungalow from the north side and two storey house to the south. The lower floor is a traditional build whilst the upper level is a timer frame kit. Building the basement level into the rock face meant that Mike and his team had to ensure adequate tanking was applied to provide suitable waterproofing.
In addition to its unique positioning, internally the house provides living space tailored exactly to the couple’s needs – from the spacious balcony and unusually positioned bath within the window of the master bedroom which both provide panoramic views across the surrounding countryside to the custom built wine cellar (accessed by a bank vault door) the house meets the specific needs of the couple.
